ARC’s Community Planning Academy (CPA) offers high-quality, cost-effective training and workshops to local elected officials, local government employees and others who are involved in the planning process. CPA provides planners and decision-makers with tools to make effective decisions regarding their community’s future.

The next installment of CPA is set for Wednesday, October 16 and will examine the intersection of planning and economic development in Covington/Newton County. The registration deadline for this CPA training is TOMORROW, October 2.

Background

In 2012, Baxter International announced plans to build a $1 billion state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Covington. This move will create over 1,500 new full-time jobs and have a significant impact on the regional economy. The October 16 CPA training will share how a dedicated group of community leaders embarked on a process of education, planning and collaboration that now constitutes the “Newton Model.” Many point to this process, and the resources it has created, as crucial to securing the Baxter deal. Participants will come away with a clear understanding of this model of cooperation among local governments, as well as ideas for how they can spur similar discussions and progress in their own communities. This event will be followed by an optional Learning Lab on October 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the same location.
